I've just put up the two sets of "red heart" fairy lights around the porch windows. (we can't stand those awful "electric blue" ones that seem so popular)
Most of the houses in our road have identical porches and the majority will do the same.
Apart fom hanging the cards on strings as they arive, in the lounge "that's it" for our involvement with Christmas.

    Bah! Humbug!

It seems too early to be talking about Christmas - we're still in November.
My birthday is at the end of November and the rule in our house was always - no talking about Christmas until after my birthday. It seemed to work.
I did see your red lights last year Doghouse - they were lovely, and I know what you mean about the cold, blue ones.
I'm saving it all for December.

Alice, my birthday is beginning of December and like you, we too have a rule of no decorations until after that...although I do quite like putting them up on the day, if I'm off work.

We have red berry lights around the front door and window...and white twinkling lights strung through the Cordylines. I want a few more - the more the merrier, dogs dinner and all that. It reminds me that the original meaning of the festival, was to bring light and warmth at the darkest, coldest time of the year. After this November, bring it on!

We don't have "rules" for Christmas what's the point? I did mine today as it was too wet for golf. Just another "job" out of the way.

Yes, I know what you mean Sussexgardener. I'm moving more and more towards a festival of lights to get through the darkest part of winter.

I don't like the dark down here, let alone where you are Alice. But cheer up less than 6 weeks till solstice now, then its back down hill to summer.

This is true, the lights round around our porch made us feel quite cheerful today.

I also turn this lot on for a few minutes each evening, 6 porch type lamps, two spotlights, one small fluorescent in the tea-house, four low voltage lamps and two sets of fairy lights. The sight also cheers us up, although we don't leave them on for long "as it dims the street lamps in our road."

Your lights are just lovely Doghouse and not usurping Christmas at all - just winter lights.
It's so dark, mine will be going on soon.

If you don't keep a fire burning from dusk till dawn on solstice night, then the sun won't come back.

    According to some religions.

Love the lights, DHR......i put mine out a couple weeks ago, while the weather was nice, and just this week, plugged them in.

I HATE being out there, when its -25 here, trying to put out lights with fingers freezing.

That's lovely Eddie. We've had so much snow that the lights haven't gone up - but I see you have plenty too.
The icicles have melted off the gutters now, so hope we can get the lights up this week.

Here's my Christmas Star, managed to put ut up yesterday, it takes me a couple of hours getting up and down the ladder threading the light strings to a pole (why do they always get so tangled up!)

    Happy Christmas folks!
