    Hi,
I am thinking of getting on of these for my windowsill. Any recommendations on what I should go for? Could I use it on a north facing windowsill or does south work best even if it's heated?
    thanks in advance

You can get one with 7 little trays that fits on a window ledge like this:

it isn't thermostatically controlled, but only uses 13 watts

or you could get a thermostatically controlled one like

(although that one is square, so probably not suitable for a window ledge)

Problem with a North Facing window is that the light is not strong, so when the seeds germinate they may get "leggy" stretching for the sun.

OTOH on a South facing window ledge they may get bright sun and "cook". Direct bright sunshine not ideal, but bright light is important.

I'm thinking about a growing light for my leggy seedlings :(
