I've only posted in one thread (about my own garden!) as my gardening knowledge is next to nothing - but I'm enjoying lurking and learning from all the informative discussion here.

I'm in west Yorkshire, trying to do something with a tiny little terrace garden at the front of our rented property. Currently in a war of attrition with slugs, snails, cats and occasionally surprise ninja attacks from neighbour's small children (upending my seed trays, thanks for that). I'm on a budget so populating the garden, which was ok but mostly bare apart from some impressive hydrangeas, is taking some time.

Look forward to learning more while I'm here!

    Hello and welcome:)

Do you know its kids that's up-ending your seed trays? Blackbirds do that too with the smaller trays. I think they're looking for the wide range of bugs that hide underneath seed trays and pots.

Well, the third (!) time it happened the tray was completely emptied and replaced, with no trace of the contents! I once found their mop bucket in my garden too, which suggests they were visiting...

I had a word with their mum - along the lines of 'I'm not saying it's your kids but could you remind them not to come in my garden without permission' and she didn't seem that surprised! I then had a comedy visit and mumbled apology from the guilty party ... The youngest who I reckon is not older than 4 years old. Clearly my seed tray had formed part of a really good game. She was probably building mud castles. Which is forgiveable but still very annoying!

I haven't had any more trouble since I asked the mum to have a word, so cross fingers it's done the trick.

Thanks Adam! Today I had borrowed a hedge trimmer to deal with our very overgrown hedge. They were VERY interested, in that terrifying might just suddenly appear in front of the blade kind of way.

Fortunately we had no casualties, after numerous conversations with the smallest boy saying 'chainsaws! Cool' and me saying how they must ONLY be operated by GROWNUPS and How I was being careful to pay attention to people walking past. And smallest ninja running the gamut between hedge trimmer and road in one of the more alarming ball retrieval at a bad time moments. ;)
