Early in November I moved the olive trees from the greenhouse to the basement to overwinter in a little used area.. The temperature in the basement is ideal to give them their required winter chill and I used several low power LED grow lights for lighting. There are probably 20 trees with the total wattage used being less than 200watts The photoperiod has been set to match the local daylight hours in Spain.
While misting the trees today I noticed that some of the trees are setting flower buds, so I can safely assume that the plants are happy with their winter environment. I know it is not nice to fool Mother Nature, but it is sure fun to try.
