We need to do that - before we decide whether to shoot them down.

Don't you mean - fly off in other directions? :heehee:

@Steve R should be able to tell you about low flying planes. They tend to do that up his way all the time. Most of them are jets and are travelling around the speed of sound way below the sides of the fells. What amazes me is that the sheep and cows take not the slightest notice despite the very sudden extremely loud noise. :noidea:

Animals sence that there about (just like when a storm is about), but young animals will jump at first but they will watch the other animals not move one bit and they too will get used to it

We used too have a bit of land and we signed up for the army to use that land for training new helicopter pilots, they're given the map reference and they have to find it, must of the time they did but some times they didn't :snorky: 10 minutes in and out even in the wet times they didn't make a mess as they only touch the landing gear on the groud :) it was lovely to watch them come in and fly off again

I know EXACTLY how you felt @Sheal.
Every now and again we get Hercules planes flying over us. They used to be stationed at Leuchers (RAF base) not sure currently as Leuchers is now an army base I think.
Our house is on it's own nestled in amongst the hills and after 1 extremely scary occasion when I was face down on the ground in the garden believing a Hercules was going to crash on top of me I phoned Leuchers to complain. Upon investigation the RAF did admit our house wasn't on their maps but they would alter them to show our house.....hmm still get the odd 1 (usually 2 actually) flying VERY low over us.
On the occasion I phoned I was able to describe what the pilot looked like ...yes THAT low and he had to pull the plane up steeply having misjudged the hill behind us. As he did so he hit the top of 1 of our big trees. 009.JPG I said that the plane had hit the top of a tree. I could tell the person was not exactly convinced I was telling the truth.
However, when he phoned back he admitted they had found a couple of twigs stuck on the plane in question:rolleyespink:. The person apologised and then informed me it was Americans getting low flying practice. I enquired as to why the hell couldn't they get their low flying practise in their own country. He didn't answer this:scratch::)

Quite a few years ago , I was on my way to a golf weekend in Harlech . Driving through a valley in Snowdonia , some swine in a RAF jet passed me from behind at 600mph :gaah: Frightened me to death , with all the noise and shaking I thought my rear wheel had fallen off :snorky:

Many years ago we were on holiday on the Isle of Mull and had decided to visit Ulva which we got to by a small passenger ferry. As we were tramping across the land we suddenly heard a horrendous noise behind us and it was so loud as it got near to us in a spit second after the first loud noise,we dropped to the ground with our fingers in our ears as this almighty great military aircraft flew low above our heads. How it never burst our ear drums I shall never know but for a few minutes afterwards we were both still shaking which I can only assume was fright and we have often wondered since how cows, sheep and horses got on with them flying all over the place.I assume the farmers issue them with ear defenders:biggrin:

We can laugh about it now but at the time it was quiet disconcerting and probably is the reason I have suffered with Tinnitus for years:sad:

@shiney @ARMANDII @Sheal , yes it’s a Hercules. I was thrown by the shape of the prop blades, which immediately made me think A400M. The ‘Hercs’ that I’m familiar with came with straight prop blades, little realising that these had changed over the years. Looking at the two now, the differences are plain (see what I did there?). I really should put my brain in gear before engaging in debate

Not a problem @Freddy , they do look similar. :) I'll be researching my plane later to see if I can come up with more about it. Somebody must know of it in the areas it was flying in and I'm sure it's not the first time it's flown over here.

So everyone, a single plane doesn't make a fleet, or would that be a squadron? I think the jury's still out on this one. :snorky:

A single plane - well, I would say that was an 'interest' ;)
