    Hope it's spelled right.!

Anyway, same deal, If it's in B&Q it's rubbish.
I am looking for some good quality secateurs, last a lifetime types, where the blades don't bend on a half inch branch.
As my German colleauge used to say, "Buy cheap , buy twice".
    Imagine the accent.

Felco are about the best you can buy and imo beat all other brands ie wolf, bacho. I would not use anything else.

The good thing about felcos is you can buy spares for them and they are very easy to sharpen and maintain, the blades are very good tool steel and do keep an edge.

I use Felco No 7 (the ones with the rotating rear handles I find I can cut wood up to about 1" with them. Felco no 2 are also nice and lighter on the hand but with fractionaly less cutting capacity.

Around once every four months i strip mine down, clean the blades with wet and dry sandpaer, grease, oil and sharpen them. on a daily basis I give the blades a quick spray of wd40 after work.

Price wise shop around but the No 7s are around £45 and the no2 at £35.

if you use yours heavly on a daily basis then youll find it worth buying a couple of volute springs as these do eventualy wear around £2 each I use a couple per year but it pays to have a few by so your not without secateurs.

I agree with Pro Gard, Felco no7 are very comfortable to use. My back up make would be Sandvik ( makers of the Swiss Army Knife ). David.

I have a sandvik pair that have lasted me for a good few years now.
I do believe that "you only get what you pay for".
As with all tools it depends on how much use they are going to get, but a £5 pair is probably not going to last long.

I had a pair of 30+ year old Wilkinson's that I inherited from my dad. They were great but the spring failed a few years ago.
I now use a pair of Felco's that I very luckily picked up new for £5.00 at a car boot sale. I keep an oily rag in the GH to wipe them down every time I use them and give them a rub with fine wire wool about once a year.

A good choice, I like the no 2s as with the point nose they are quite 'snipy' for dead heading as oposed to my no7 which feel a tad ham fisted although they do have a slightly greater cutting capacity.

Felco do make a nice leather holster, although as I dont wear a belt i have nothing to hang it from so have never bought it.

I bought a left-handed pair of Felcos years ago, they were stolen months after but strangely I found out after all a right handed pair was easier to use. [IMG]

Paul I too dont wear or nead a belt but think the one have seen on line has a clip .

Our local ironmonger 6 miles away has one in his shop so going to check it out to see but its even more expensive than buying online with post and packing.
I dont want to lay down and mislay these.

Which I have done in the past.

    So may still order online.

And Sl sorry you got yours stolen thats sad bad enough loosing them oursleves but so sad when something gets stolen.

I use a small pair of Wilkinsons which I had when I went to college. They are really excellent and much better than the current ones on the market.
Buying now I would have said Felco but I picked up a pair of Barnel B7's for Michele at the Winsor show and they are a real joy to use.
