Ive fleeced some tomatoes so far but the heavy duty stuff is a bit off yet. ie wrapping treeferns, mulching with straw, bringing in tender palms, mulching black bamboos etc.

Starting to pull out tomatoes. Had a poor season for my hot peppers so will be trashing them and disinfecting that small greenhouse. Set up my lawn chair in there for sunny days or visitors who smoke.

          Get crabapples off lawn

lots and lots of rewiring to do in my solar power set up. Poor planning to be corrected. ..

          get crabapples off lawn

blow out the small irrigation system, feed the lawn

          get crabapples off lawn

already have enough crabapple juice to make jelly...

I took Tess for a walk today.... in the pouring rain and the whole area was just full of fallen crabapples, I should have picked some but just didn't go prepared with a carrier bag... so maybe a job for tomorrow. I've never done crabapple jelly...will have to take a look on the webby thingy to get a good recipe :pcthwack:

A bit early yet bigbore, I usually wait till the first frosts have cut things back. Is that plastic or fleece? Plastic is not so good as it encourages damp/rot.

i put a chicken wire frame around the plant and filled with straw, a plastic bag on the bottom to prevent water coming up onto the straw, then i wrapped with weed membrane and placed a plastic bag over the top .. Should i remove the plastic? will this cause a big issue

We don't do anything apart from cutting back and tidying. Apart from that, the garden has to fend for itself - although we might put a little protection over the echiums (it's their first winter and they're exposed to the north wind).

Just to get you all into the right frame of mind :heehee:. This is the view from the bed where the Echiums are!

Question :) .... will the banana not rot off with a plastic cover as apposed to a breathable fleece?...

.... and Woo knows a thing or three :)
Seems early to be so pessimistic though .... that banana should be fine for another few weeks yet I would have thought. I will wait until I see what might be happening with the weather before I make any decisions (or will check in with Woo on a regular basis :))

I don't protect anything. Everything dies back and comes back the same the year after, near enough :blue thumb: even the plants I wouldn't mind being killed off by frost.

Good morning @whis4ey my dear friend, you are my hero:love30:;)

Now the jet stream will be stuck from November until mid January, which will result in some high pressure from Mrs Woo,and lots and lots of icy bars (that's a lot of hot air about)Sitting on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean (without falling in)means the UK's climate is a temperate maritime one.:heehee:
. Colder winters do occur but they are the exception not the norm and are usually caused by high pressure developing to the north. This allows cold Arctic or polar continental air masses to push towards the UK.

Woo study bring him to the conclusion that a positive North Atlantic Oscillation pressure pattern. That's why I think it will be milder winter.Solar activity points to a milder winter. These include the Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO), Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO), and Quasi-biennial oscillation (QBO). The QBO is expected to be in a westerly phase. this also points to milder winter.

So I rest my case I now have a headache brought on by low pressure and having to wear Mrs Woos glasses,:lunapic 130165696578242 5:
