I hope your greenhouse is still standing @silu and there's not to much damage. Take care everyone that's caught up in Gertie! :grphg: We've missed the worst here today but are battening down the hatches for tomorrow.

We've had a gale here this morning but for once have avoided the worst. Apart from that it's the usual grey gloom. 8C/46F

Jessss that was some day. Thank you @Sheal and yes my fairly new and pretty sturdy greenhouse IS still standing. How glad am I that I bought quite an expensive one with big toughened glass panes. With much fewer panes and the way they are held in place by rubber seals rather than metal clips means much less drafts and very strong. That's the good bit of news, the bad, OMG we lost an enormous White Beam which was over 100 years old:sad:. She was right by the road and so it was blocked for most of the day. What a job. Had daughter with her chainsaw and neighbour with his going full blast for over 6 hours to clear the road. I was full tilt barrowing stuff away that they'd cut up. I now hurt EVERYWHERE having been working like a demon between about 8.45 until 1/2 an hour ago. I have downed 2 LARGE whiskies and beginning to feel a little better. Road is cleared but still loads to clear from the field. What a mess, fence demolished and horse furious as we have had to bring him in because the fence is no longer stock proof.
In all my life I don't think I have experienced higher winds. At times it took us all our time to keep our feet while dealing with the fallen tree. Hope the rest of you faired well and you haven't had too much damage.

Glad to hear your GH is ok @silu and everyone's safe.
Here quite windy with gusts over 50mph but no major damage apart from a few shredded palm leaves and pots blown over
          Mild though 10'c/50'f still windy

Thanks both @mowgley and @"M". I'm so glad I found GC some years ago it does seem to attract really friendly and caring folk. Now onto 3rd Whisky and feeling A LOT better:rolleyespink:,. Will probably have a mother and father of a hangover if I have any more but with your kind thoughts and the amber fluid life has definitely taken on a rosier glow after what we had to cope with today. Nobody injured thank goodness which was a distinct possibility as some of the huge branches had got snagged up on another tree and we had to attach ropes to them and drag them off using a car....doing this while a howling gale was giving it large wasn't exactly copybook health and safety!

I was just thinking that ... so, your muscles will ache from head to toe and your head will ache from a whiskey too many ...

... so it does make it rather difficult to know where to aim the nettles at you tomorrow as per this thread ... maybe nettle soup  (I take it your tongue isn't hurting?) ;)

I'm glad to hear you are all in one piece still @silu. :) How sad it is to lose a tree of such great age. It's going to be difficult to fill that gap! :doh:Your greenhouse was obviously a good investment and other damage can be put right in time. Tell your horse he has to be patient while you get things back together. :)

Enjoy your amber nectar, I bet you sleep like a log tonight......forgive the pun! ;)

I'm sad to read of the loss of that grandfather tree, but glad that no one was seriously hurt. Raise another glass for that old giant, eh?

Well, they had forecast high winds for North Wales and as I'm near the border I was expecting gales etc. But last night was fairly quiet and today the winds were in fact just breezes:heehee: The temperature reached 52 without any real sign of the Sun due to the grey cloudy skies that, now and then, had some blue patches. Right now the temperature is 46f and the pressure reading is 1006mbs.:coffee::snork:

@silu glad everyone is ok including the horse. Hope you're not aching too much this morning. Like Sheal says, it's very sad to lose an old tree but at least your greenhouse remained standing. Money well spent I reckon :dbgrtmb:

The winds turned out not to be too bad here. They pretty much died out by lunch time. This morning it's cloudy and colder as the temp is 5.2C . It isn't that windy either even though we've got a yellow weather warning for wind, snow and ice :rolleyespink:

Happy to read that silu is ok, as I hope everyone else is.

Here, its a whole 6C, and wet and windy. Had a difficult drive along the motorway earlier due to the amount of water and wind. It made the car guzzle fuel as well. :frown:

Morning all and again many thanks for your kind wishes. God is being a little tiresome as post the horror winds of yesterday (live not far away from The Forth Bridge which recorded winds of 91MPH and we're a lot higher than where the bridge is) outside now somewhat resembles my avatar! Had a good 6 ins of the white stuff overnight which isn't exactly welcome. My head is a little fragile this am, can't think why!!!! but once the small hangover recedes I'd better go and brush snow off my greenhouse. Now that would be sod's law, that it stood the gales only to buckle under the weight of snow. All I can say is roll on Spring.
