 Well I don't use Explora rosa as it always seems to have some problem or another...
I have however, heard that the latest version #8 is very troublesome & they have still to "iron out the wrinkles" so to speak... Do you have Firefox.? If you do use that instead of explora...

This might or might not be related, but my whole computer including internet slowed down considerably over the past few weeks.

The other day I tried to change the desktop background and found that all I got was a blue screen without a picture. I went to the display option in the control panel and just chanced changing the appearance from "Classic" colour to something else...I chose "Eggplant." Hey presto, the picture appeared on the desktop background and the whole computer system has speeded up, including the internet. Why this should be, I've no idea. Maybe the computer developed a glitch which only affected the "Classic colour " mode.

rosa, how did you sort this out? Are you still with BT? I'm with Virgin and I know there was a problem a couple of days ago in the NE16 area don't know if you come under that? We don't, so I couldn't understand how I'd used the net fine then a couple of hours later it wasn't working! Had to change IP address or something????? :)

Anyway looks like you're up & running now so fingers crossed.

    cheers

It's not too bad an idea to clear Internet Explorer's cache now and again:

Click on 'Tools', and then on 'Delete Browsing History' you can then select which elements to clear, clicking on 'Delete All' does as it implies, it deletes everything from the cache (including any stored Passwords to sites like this, so be careful)

I had a problem with performance (Tiscali) after I upgraded from 1Mb/s to 8Mb/s I was lucky to get 0.5Mb/s, the Tiscali Help Desk advised me to clear the Cache and it burst into life and I'm seeing 3-4 Mb/s on a regular basis.

Also, if you tend to keep the Computer switched on all the time, you can suffer from 'memory leaks' where some misbehaving programs don't actually release all the memory they have used when they close. Over a period of time this can severely affect performance, so it's a good idea to shutdown and re-boot the Computer on a reasonably regular basis. One of the signs of memory 'starvation' is when you display a page in Explorer and instead of seeing a picture you only see a square box with a little red X in it.

Regarding the IP Address, it's normal to be allocated an address every time you connect to the service provider, the address you are allocated may change and it's not normally anything you need to worry about, it's all done under the covers.

    Pam,

You need to start Internet Explorer, and go to the 'Tools' menu item in that.

I'm not that familar wih how BT set-up their Customers, but you can change the Home page of Explorer (ie the page that is displayed when you start Explorer). Run Explorer and select the 'Tools' menu. From the drop-down that appears, select 'Internet Options'. You will see 'Home Page', the current Home page(s) will be highlighted, you can overwrite whatever is there with the address(es) of the page(s) you want (eg the btinternet sign-in page). When you've made the change click on 'Apply' and then 'OK'.

With Explorer 7 you can have multiple Home pages by entering the address of each one on a new line in the 'Home Page' box. When you have multiple Home pages each is displayed in a new Tab when you start Explorer, you can switch between them by just clicking on the Tab.
