Hi people, went to B&Q yesterday for some gravel but also came away with a pack of 6 shrubs in 4 inch pots as they fit my plans for this year, replacing veg plot. However, just listed as 'shrub mixture'. Not great photos from ipad but any help with ID would be appreciated. Also was one holly so I left that off list. He he. Wow! I think I've made the right choice! Looks ideal. Thanks again. I've planted them out put protected them from frost with a covering.

I can't say for the others, but no. 1 looks like the same Gaultheria procumbens that I tried for my driveway. Unfortunately they all died.

It is an Ericaceus shrub so prefers acid soil.
Maybe next to a drive the ground was to alkaline?
Or maybe it was too hot and dry?

It prefers moist soils in shade or partial shade.
If happy it grows slowly by suckers.
It is the perfect shrub for planting under taller shrubs/trees.

Yes, the plants had everything but constant moisture. This was when I first moved into my home, near 18 years ago. I hope I've learned a bit more since then, lol.

On your variegated Pieris, remove the lower branch which has all green leaves. They have a tendency to revert and these will grow quicker than the variegated branches.

The unidentified shrub is a Leucothoe. a small shrub,it is also a calcifuge and prefers a semi shaded spot.
