Exotic looking plant with yellow flowers

I think this year is the first time that this plant has flowered. I'm thinking of moving it because its in the way of my new path that I'm planning. Does anyone have any thoughts please ?

 

Paeonia lutea ludlowii ?

If so its rather disappointing IME ... sorry!

EDIT: I mean that variety, in general, rather than your particular specimen - sorry!

 

Agreed!,, I doubt if it would move sucessfully!. Feed it and put the path around it.. or lose it.

Lovely plant, one of my favourites:luv: peonies can be moved but you would have to be pretty brave to move one as established as that. Better to research pruning and incorporating this plant rather than moving IMHO:gnthb:

Hi tdubya welcome ,you have a nice garden,May is the worst time to move a peony I have never found them difficult to move although the Paeonia lutea ludlowii or sometimes known as Paeonia delavayi var lutea do suffer cosiderable die-back when moved,unless you are prepared to lose it consider moving it in the autumn.

I need to do something because it is currently forming a pinch point in the existing crazy paving path with quite a handsome 7 foot high Broom shrub on the opposite side of the path. It sounds like I need to prune the Paeonia anyway to try and get it grow a bit more bushlike. I was contemplating cutting this back down to about 18 inches off the floor where there are some buds growing ?

The Broom is going to be pruned soon anyway, so I could deal with both plants at the same time to see if the pinch point in the path can be reduced significantly without the need to move the Paeonia. Decisions, decisions...

 

As far as I'm concerned, of the two the broom is the short lived, the peony,will go on for years, but brooms are short lived.

I prune my "tree" peonies hard when needed, but they will never be bushy, its how they grow a bit tall and leggy.

 

Pete have you seen the latest peonies called intersectional peonies (itoh) they are a cross between tree and shrub peonies supposed to be the best of both worlds.

But I've never seen one - dire risk if I did of thinking that I can't afford NOT to have some !!
