Personally I don't like part worns, as others have said you dont know if they're 100% safe and sound. However, having 4 low profile tyres my other half moans that they are not worth the extra and he will gladly put a part worn on if he is sorting the car..but if I'm taking in it for mot or tyres I buy new. I think it's down to how tight you are lol

Going both off topic and off memory a little. I seem to remember that the engine was based on the small block Ford engine that was used in a lot of US Ford products at the time. Either the 262 (4.2 litre) or the 289 (4.7 litre) one. Same basic engine in any case. The block material was changed to aluminium and made in the UK, along with the other engine parts. The big problem was, aluminium was a bit of an unknown in the car world at the time, and it caused overheating problems.

Funny thing is, around the same time, an australian engineer called Phil Irving took what was originally an aluminium engine from Buick, modified it, and it won an F1 world championship in 1966. (?)

Marks 1, 2 and 3 were UK built, the Mk 4 was US built. The Mark 1 had the alloy small block but from the Mk 2 on it was a cooking version of the iron 427 FE engine.

You are correct but that 40% is the important bit!

The GT40 was THE car in my early 1960's car days . You could bore people rigid telling them it was 40" high hence the name . I was driving another Ford beast at the time the Anglia 105E 1000cc . Then again it had a back seat ,you could do things in a Ford Anglia which would be impossible in a GT40 ! ;)
Anglia - same colour as mine :blue thumb:

Seeing that Anglia reminds me, have you heard about Ford's new model, the Pubic?

It's made from old Corsairs ;) :snorky:

I had the 123E but it was altered at the factory for a Ford main dealer manager and delivered to me by mistake . I know nothing about the innards of a car but, apparently, my car had the Cortina GT gearbox and everything needed to go with it. It was a 'special build', arrived at the main dealers and was sold to me by their salesman. They didn't get it back! :snorky:

Couldn't be me :nonofinger: The colour is nearly right but that's a 105E! There's no go faster stripe built into to it that the 123E had.

              This is like mine

It was a great car and it didn't go rusty for four years! :snorky:

It would have been a lot better if that 40% was a Hemi! :snork:

Tyres are your only contact with the road.... Cheap tyres are a compromise worn tyres are a compromise to far....

Once down to a certain level tyres wear very fast. So not only are you buying tyres with the best part gone the remainder is not going to last.

How do you know the tyres history of its been used ? It may have been thumped hard on a kerb and have structural damage or it may have had a borderline repair.

Cheap tyres are like cheap motorcycle helmets. If you have a ten Bob head buy a ten Bob helmet....

@Beckie76 , I went to the dump ,sorry , environmental recycling centre yesterday . There was a part worn tyre place near there , actually they were advertised as "Pre-Owned ". You need to venture onto industrial estates like the photo below to find these places. The roads always have big puddles with a brick in each puddle , even in August
