My mother in laws house insurance renewal has just arrived £288 . Ten minutes on a comparison site we bought from More Than , with home cover and legal protection for £120 ! Just a reminder to always check you car insurance ,house insurance renewals at least every two years . It is very easy :dbgrtmb:
Also pays to check you gas and electricity suppliers . We changed from Npower to OVO 18 months ago saved about £250 per year . Npower had sent me a best price renewal , when I phoned them to cancel they said - we can offer you a better price than our best price - ! So it was good riddance to Npower
I have been with my bank Royal Bank of Scotland for 40 years ever since it was William and Glynns . Now to change bank accounts used to be a daunting task :hate-shocked:It is so easy now changed over to Santander in 7 days all direct debits etc etc no problems ( so far :rolleyespink:)

Same thing happened with my car insurance renewal with Churchill, was more than double what I found by using comparethemarket which came up with Saga. And I got very cheap premium breakdown, and 2 for 1 cinema for a year! And we go to cinema a couple of times a month so a good saving there.Did it again yesterday for house insurance and saved £30 using Sheila's wheels, plus free legal and odds and ends. Very strange sometimes- I had a mail shot from Santander addressed to me personally, offering me a 20% discount on house insurance: I phoned them, gave them a long number from the mail shot, they looked me up and asked me some questions then said I would have to prove who I was before they could go any further! I said look, you mailed me, you know who I am! But computer said no, so I just laughed and said forget it.
Never tried to change bank or power, might give that a go on the next rainy day.

Haven't switched car insurance for a while as I was employed with tesco, so had 10% off with clubcard and 10% staff discount.. probably should tell them I quit 11 months ago
Switched electric suppliers from British gas to Extra Energy around 4 months ago, was paying £180 a month now £119 :hapfeet:

I check my renewals every year for the best deals, and swap if there is any cashback or a better deal of course :)
There is currently an insurance advert that makes me cringe when I watch it. I won't advertise for them, but it does involve a singing and dancing woman

I agree about checking all renewals and utilities. I've recently renewed the insurance for our house, contents and two cars. got it over £100 less than renewal quotes. This may not sound to great a saving but I've shopped around every year for the last eight years and it has been less each year. :rolleyespink: I've just paid £500 less than I did eight years ago. The market is very competitive now.

I do mine over the phone as I prefer talking to someone. I've been able to get them to give me less than their 'best' price.

I've even got BT to drop the price of our two landlines (lower than their lowest advertised rates) and got another £3 per month off their lowest advertised Broadband. With the Broadband the person that I spoke to first wouldn't give any discount, even when I said that I would look elsewhere. So I told him that I'll think about it. I phoned again 15 minutes later, got another salesperson and got the £3 per month off. :blue thumb:

If you don't ask, you don't get. :noidea:

@NorthantsGeezer , does this insurance company , I won't name them , but do they rhyme with Admiral , it is an awful advert
I thought the same with Quote Me Happy , their moronic adverts made me say I will never insure with them. We have both cars with them now ! Very good prices and their fully online site is a dream.

Every year British Gas try to put my heating cover up by about £40 a year.
I just say 'Oh, ok, sorry I can't afford that, I will shop around'.
I don't mind paying a small increase due to an ageing system, and r&d etc. They usually cut the increase by about 50%. If it got too much though, I would go elsewhere. I have just made a claim, so it could well happen next year .

Doh  Harry, you have just fallen for their trap . The sign of a good advertising agent, so maybe their adverts aren't so bad after all :heehee:.

What I found funny with our car renewal was that they asked me for the value of the cars. I said that they were the experts, not me! So they said that they were unable to give a quote without it.

When I asked what they would pay out if the car was written off they told me it would be the book value. So I asked for the book value and they said that they couldn't tell me. Then they told me that they would hang on whilst I went on line to check it. By then we had waited 10 minutes arguing about it and then it took a few more minutes whilst I got it sorted on line. Mrs Shiney's car is worth £100 :lunapic 130165696578242 5:
