Hi please could i have some advice again. If you remember i am working on my son and partners garden.
At the back, is a conservertary leading out to a split level garden which is slabbed very badly from the previous owners, this leads down to two steps.
I suggested to my son that i lay gravel on the slabs and put some potted plants around with a seating area then have a trells either side of the steps to keep that part separate, as i want to design different rooms for the garden. They can't spend a lot of money as they are doing up their house.

I laid gravel down at the side of our house as the concrete was so ugly and it looked lovely afterwards so i thought this would be ok for them. The trouble is that the gravel would spill over the edge of the steps when walked on, so i thought i could make a path to the steps by not laying any gravel on the slabs leading up to the steps, but then i would have to have something down to stop the gravel then going onto the path, something like log rolls but how could i fit them onto a path? also i would need a ledge so the gravel doesn't go over the steps, but that wouldn't do because people could trip over it. I did think of one of those plastic path rolls which i could lay right to the end of the steps, what do members think?

Will gravel on concrete not be like an ice rink?

Could you lift the slabs, except the row where the steps are, and put the gravel down? Depends what the slabs are on (if soil / sand the slabs will come up easily, but you'll need to put weed barrier under the gravel), if they are cemented onto concrete they may be harder to get up, but you should then have something the gravel can rest on.

I would leave the steps plain or lay new nicer slabs. As has been said gravel and steps willl be a lethal combination.

Yes Pete you did get the wrong end of the stick. I didn't mean i would put gravel on the steps, i said i didnt' want the gravel to fall onto the steps as that would be dangerous, i wanted a way to stop the gravel falling over the edge, but thanks for your concern and also to pro gard too. I think leaving the slabs down so it makes a path to the steps is a good idea..

Hi all, i now i have now been able to get some photo's of our son and partners garden as i have a new mobile. if you remember i was asking advice about laying gravel and said i was designing their garden. They haven't got a lot of money to spend as they are having their house renovated and that is taking most of their money at present, so that is why i have chosen gravel as a cheap alternative.
The bottom of the garden had a one of those large plastic swimming pools in but it leaked, so that was taken down, at the moment there is a trampoline in it's space that is waiting to be sold.
So watch this space i hope i can remember how to put the photo's on.

Why not just attach the pictures to a message here? ("Go advanced" then "Manage attachments")

I couldn't put my photo's on i tried such a lot of times although i could see the photo's in photo bucket when i tried to download one it said there wasn't any in my album. I had followered instructions and saw my photo's on photo bucket but when i came to download one it says i hadn't any photo's in my album.
I remembered from last year when it wouldn't do certain actions the next time i tried a few days later it worked, but it is different now to what it was before. I will have to ask my son if he can do it for me when he gets the time. Sorry to disapoint.

Sorry to hear its proving a problem for you. Hopefully your son can find a way that works for you.

A number of people have reported problems, but I am inclined to forget that because "it works for me" !!

I still don't "get" why folk upload to Photobucket, and then link to the pictures from here.

Lots of old threads refer to pictures, which were in Photobucket, and for whatever reason no longer exist. Its a shame because such a thread is of no real use to anyone any more as the pictures have gone.

Whereas uploading here (barring data-loss accidents) is a permanent record.

And, IME, easy to do ...
