I've been sitting watching the bad weather develop for the last five hours (been reading and having cuppas as well :blue thumb:).

The heavy rain has stopped but the wind is still roaring. The stupid weather forecast is still saying the wind speed is 17 mph and won't pick up, to 50+, until at least 11 a.m. They obviously didn't try walking down my garden during the night!

When the really heavy rain stopped at around 4 a.m. I went out in the garden to reconfigure my bird feeders so that they wouldn't get blown down and damaged but the birds can still use them. It was surprisingly mild at 51F but I didn't attempt to go past my Main garden, which is reasonably sheltered.

At 6 a.m., as it was getting light, I decided to have a wander round and inspect things. The Anemometer on the canopy was screaming round (actually emitting a high pitched whistle :rolleyespink:) and had a red light flashing. It's attached to the emergency rewind on the canopy. A three-seater wooden bench had blown over but apart from empty pots and trays blowing around there was no obvious damage.

Some of the flower beds are flooded but they'll soon drain off. I tried to walk down to the bottom of the garden to see whether the weed membrane on the veggie patches was needing any attention but the wind coming off the field was a bit too strong to try and walk down there. From what I could see through the tree boundary it seemed OK.

I then walked to the front garden just in time to see a 30ft tree come down in the field opposite.

I'm now snug indoors listening to the wind getting stronger and I'm pleased we had one of our giant poplars, that was rotting, taken down a few days ago.

Stop Press: I just rushed out to the greenhouse as I glanced out of my window and saw one of the top windows bouncing up and down a little bit. The greenhouse is 40 years old and the points no longer fit the holes on the latches, due to warping. So I went to try and tie it down. I got that one tied down and was going to do the others - until I felt the whole thing shaking in a gust of wind. Discretion is the better part of valour, so I'm back indoors!

Cloudy with a gusty wind. Rain is forecast for later.

ETA: From what I can see on the news and reports here on GC, it seems pretty bad down south. Stay safe all. :grphg:

Well, its now officially Spring, and what do we get, the hardest blow of the winter so far and half inch of rain.

                  Wonderful.
Just need a good old minus 5C to finish things off.

But it actually feels a bit more like Spring now this afternoon.;)

Unusually it's been intermittently sunny and no rain here in Central Scotland so managed to get a lot done over the last few days. Long may it continue ......

It rained all night last night in differing intensities but the winds didn't appear to be anything out of the ordinary, so Storm Katie must have only brushed past us. So today, when the Sun came out in brief periods, the temperature got up to 50f and later in the garden it felt quite warm.......but I'm sure that was an illusion.:dunno: Right now the temperature is 39f and the pressure reading is 1001mbs.........and the skies are clearing, so the Observatory is ready to go should it stay like that.:coffee::snork:

I hope everyone is safe and well and not suffered to much damage around homes and gardens.

We got off lightly here this time, apart from a stiff breeze it was a reasonable day with plenty of sunshine and a couple of light showers. 9C/48F.

The wind has died down and we've had a bit of sunshine but the dark clouds have taken over now. Rain is forecast for later.
