    Hi all,

Over the last 2 weeks, I have got some strange yellow streaks in my lawn. The only thing I can think it being was the weed, feed and moss killer I applied about 3 weeks ago. It was the westland granular version.
I used the hand spreader applicator that the feed comes in. I thought I walked it around evenly!!
Is there anything I can do?

Also, I read in Amatuer gardening this week that leatherjacket grubs can also cause this. Could it be that?

I know it's difficult to see, but in some lights it looks like yellow neon strips, and I am know by my friends and family of being quite obsessive with my lawn in my back garden.

BTW, the front lawn which had the same feed has nothing!!

    Cheers

Here's another picture of the other side of the garden in better light.
You can see the yellow patches more clearly in this one:

Because its fairly regular lines I'd say it was your weed & feed, if you haven't had much rain recently I'd be tempted to give it a really good soaking in case you have too much fertilizer in those yellow areas.

I think you just missed a patch too, and rain / water will even it out.

I had yello patches after Greemthumb had been round for our spring weed and feed, but they have gone now - I wouldn't worry too much x

I have thought about getting Greenthumb to quote for my front lawn, but I'm really reluctant to get any of them out if they won't even give a ball park figure per sq. m. up front as I don't want the hassle of having to shoo some hard-sell merchant off the property ... nor do I want to waste their time, and mine, if the order-of-magnitude is more than my budget.

I'd be interested in your experience with Greenthumb and to know of any other such outfits that you considered (and any that you gave a wide berth to as well!)

I'd be interested to know, but their blurb is the same as all the others "We have to come out and quote"

    • As little as £20.00 inclusive of V.A.T. - I am certain they won't do mine for 20 quid :(
    • Our service is good value for money.
    • It costs less than if you were to do it yourself.
    • Before we can give you a price we will need to visit you.
    • We will prepare a lawn analysis report. This service is free.
    • We will measure the lawn(s) and leave you with a quotation.

I have seen these lawn treatment people carrying out tasks within someone's garden at completely the wrong time of the year. Another garden that used a service similar had a terrible problem with weeds and moss.

Bashy, could you have walked on the lawn when it was frozen over the winter? I have seen yellowing like that where people walked to a summer house during the winter. I'm sure it will come back in time, perhaps it just needed a drop of rain!

I haven't walked on it at all over the winter. I am definitely a fair weather gardener ;-)
In answer to the question with the rain, a day or two after I applied the weed and feed it rained for 3 days constantly, so can't see it being that.
I can't bear to look out of the window, I hate my lawn being a state and am now starting to dread the summer...yes, what a sad bast**d!!!!

What about those "after cut" lawn tonics? Some sort of liquid feed that is supposed to green-up the lawn in milliseconds :)

Never used them myself, but might be worth applying to the yellow areas to see if they will cheer up.

The menfolk haven't been having a how-far-can-U-pee contest have they? :hehe:

    Looks like a missed area.

No secret to what green thumn do, you can get the same chemicals from a trade suplier like ALS or employ a private non franchised contractor.
