Hi, I've been given some out of date seeds -some as long ago as 2002. I've been told that seeds last 20 years or more. Is this true? Is there any point planting my out of date seeds?

There is always a point in trying Vegswap, some do lose their viability but some don't. You won't know till you try.

Too true Claire, also if the seeds had been stored somewhere cool and dark they will have a better chance of germinating

I saw something on telly the other night that intrigued me. Some archaeologists had found a magnolia seed in a dig that dated back about 2000 years. They sealed it in a bag and sent it off to some horticulture experts in some well equipped lab somewhere. The horticulturists planted it and it grew. The resulting tree is believed to be the only one of its kind in the whole world, as selective breeding and natural evolution has resulted in Magnolias of today being quite different to what they were 2000 years ago.

I'm not saying we should expect our seeds to last 2000 years, but I did find that interesting.
