Sun, wind, rain, the heady heights of 5° with snow and ice forecast, but I am really very much enjoying watching the weather change over the hills :)

Bloodsome. Flurries of snow and an arctic blast. It's nearly May for gawd's sake! The veg seedlings (poor bugg..s) that I stupidly planted out are now covered in cloches AND 3 layers of fleece. Thankful the really tender stuff is still either indoors or in the greenhouse. Got fleece at the ready for the greenhouse stuff too. We haven't had a humdinger of a frost YET but making the most of (viewed from inside!)my early flowering Rhododendrons, Camellias and Magnolias as have a feeling they will all be ruined over the next couple of days. Global warming? oh sorry it's called climate change now!

The sun's out now. The weather can't make it's mind up. It's still nippy in the wind though.

It's 5C now and predicted to get to a low of 2C.... Do I cover the dahlias and other tender plants?

Hi Jack, you're in South London ain't ya, I'd have thought your courtyard garden would have stayed a few degrees above that. If you can, can you bundle them together and throw a fleece or something similar over them.

I'd cover everything you can, especially the Dahlias. You need if possible to cover the plants but not have the cover touching the plants, so a cloche or similar if you have them. Living where you do you may get a way with it, as towns will be considerably warmer than out in the countryside a la where I live:sad:. I'm expecting carnage and many of my herbaceous will no doubt have to start growth all over again:wallbanging:. No I don't blame you @Sheal :) just 1 of those things sent to try us gardeners

Thanks everyone. I might have to sneak out now in the dark and try to cover them all in one go. What a pain, it hasn't been this cold so late for a couple of years. Grr.

Hope it's not too bad for you Silu.

Although sunny all day it was to cold and windy to go out and play. 9C/48F

Lovely clear sunny day but very cold as strong winds sweeping in from the north west. Ninety five percent of the time I am convinced that coming to live on Anglesey was best choice I ever made but sometimes ( like yesterday )I get a bit fed up of being battered and having to fight against the wind. Living here can be very frustrating at times, but the positives outweigh the negatives so just have to wait for winds to calm down.

Yesterday was quite wet but we have some lovely sunshine this morning.

It's still below freezing out there and the cars and the front garden (north facing) are covered in thick frost.

In the main garden (south facing and surrounded by the house, summerhouse and trees and hedges) the roofs of the summerhouse and greenhouse are thick with frost but the lawn seems to have virtually no frost at all.

A fairly strong breeze is making it feel well below zero but I was very brave and went out to fill up the bird feeders. :heehee:
