Spray it with a strong dose of glyphosphate.
Mix a little diesel with it too for maximum effect.

Or you can chop it down and put near glyphosphate onto the opening of the stems.

There's no quick fix but you'll be able to keep ontop of it quite easily.

You would need to use it:
      a) on a day when rain is not expected (so it doesn't get washed away)
      b) when there is no wind (the wind would blow drops of it onto your nearby plants)

My old garden was becoming infested with mares tail. I saved some small water bottles, cut off the bottom, put the spout end over a piece of mares tail and then sprayed it via the open bottom of the bottle. The body of the bottle acted as a barrier from any spray being carried by an unexpected breeze. Thing is, if you use that method, leave the bottle over the plant for a couple of days because if there is any moisture on the inside of the bottle, the moment you lift it off, a drip or a drop could (I say could, not will) land on nearby plants.

Or, you could spray a paintbrush with the glyphosate and paint the leaves of the plant you wish to treat.

Both of the above using this:

Or, you can buy glyphosate in a gel form. The application surface is full of little holes and a button at the bottom of the canister. You pump the button and the gel comes up through the holes and then you simply "paint" the gel on the plants you wish to get rid of.

      This is the gel:

Break the top off the stems and put neat glyphosate in the hollow stem, cover up with a plastic bag with a rubber band round it.

Burn the bit of stem you cut off, don't lob it in the recycling bin.

If it's knotweed then I hope that the bits you pulled up were put in the rubbish bin and not the recycling bin or green bin. I think that's now illegal.

Looks like bind weed Martin, not Knotweed.
Still a pain, but it wont undermine your foundations:biggrin:

You could still let it grow a bit and then, when it has lots of leaf, treat it with glyphosate.
The more leaves the plant has to absorb the herbicide the better the effect.

@martin-f , let a length grow, then scrunch and curl into a plastic cup without holes then spray that with round up and leave all to soak in. Will soon die off.
Keep at it! We had a major infestation when we first moved in but after carefully removing as many roots as we could (emptied a whole raised bed) then doing the above its mostly beaten.
