In a shady corner with some empty pots this has been growing, its not something I planted, the pots previous occupant was cat grass.

It is quite interesting, those hanging pod things look like they might open at some point, they are fairly fat although the picture doesn't really show that.

Anybody know what this is please?

I would say that it is grass - not sure which variety it is, but it reminds me of the grass we often had back home in Scotland.

EDIT - possibly a wild oat

Oh how exciting! My first (sort-of) edible! If only my chilies and tomatoes would grow so well.

Could be wild oats or just oats, if it's wild oats don't get them down in your und's they itch like hell and they move by themselfs

Grain, wheat, barley oats all came from grass's many years ago, and now they are looking at crossing back with grass to get new plants

The other plant in the pot looks a bit like rose bay willow herb. Wait to see whether a flower forms on the top and if it's a red/pink colour it probably is rose bay. Was known as fireweed during the Great Fire of London. I remember it well. :old:

                Hi AB,

There's even a little piece about it in this weeks Amateur Gardening as well.

I reckon it will be one of those " trendy foods " by the end of the Summer Lol
