I love it when the birds twitter in the morning though. :luv:
however, I have yet to find time for any other kind of twittering...I don't think anyone would be intersted to knwo I had got to work, made a cup of tea, been to the loo or whatever. I'm sure it costs to be doing this 'twittering' so I will keep if off my list of 'things I want'.

So that people who would love to be 'friends' with Stephen Fry on Facebook can instead claim to be 'friends' with him on Twitter.

:) "These twits are assuming that their ramblings must be sophisticated because the medium is modern and technologically sophisticated.
If the same words were exchanged by letter or even e-mail,their absurdity would be clear, even to them":hehe:

There's so much more to Twitter than Stephen Fry, chatting to celebrities and telling the world how many coffees you've had of a morning.

If you use an application like Tweetdeck it's very easy to keep an eye on anything, written by anyone, anywhere in the world.

Takes someone who's passionate about growing Roses for example. Set up a filter using the word 'rose' and it'll deliver any tweet regarding Roses direct to you. At the moment I'm filtering 'pruning' 'wisteria' 'lawns' and 'allotment'. Some of the people writing about these subjects are interesting to say the least. If you enjoy what a person's writing about it's easy to click through to their profile where you'll find their musings in whole and often links to their website or blog for even more in depth reading. Last night through Twitter I ended up on a guy's website in Inverness talking about his experiences this year on his allotment. It was funny, passionate and informative to say the least. I learnt a few great tricks and hints and enjoyed reading his prose. Just by following him now on twitter anything he writes from now on regarding gardening will pop up as and when he writes it.

As a communication tool it's phenomenal what it can do and most definitely not about what colour pants Beckham's wearing this morning. There are quite a few saddos on there who just follow celebrities but you won't come into contact with them and anyone who thinks that's what Twitter is about is simply missing the point.

It's all free Shobhna so well worth a try to any sceptics.

    Twitter? Never considered it.
I find it amazing that people seem to need to be constantly texting each other. I've a mobile phone, but I keep it in the front ashtray of my car for emergencies. There's nothing that happens during my day that can't otherwise wait 'til I get home and use the landline.

My youngest daughter insisted that I should have a 'Twitter' account (or whatever they call it). I believe it took her about 3 minutes to set it up ... and to think that she could have done something useful with that 3 minutes 'cos I've never gone near it from that day to this.

I have no interest in what Stephen Fry may or may not be doing and I guess that he (and the rest of the world) don't want to know what I'm doing and care even less.

 Not my cup of tea either.. One gets enough junk coming through emails, junk mail & cold calls...
I still like to actually talk to people... Write good old fashioned snail mail letters & cards... Emails I like as I can screen them, but sorry Twitter is too "busy" for me...... :D

You don't need twitter to find out about anything. Many's the time people have asked questions on different messageboards about a topic. In these instances I just type the question into Google and an answer always comes up. It might be a site, or a post on an obscure messageboard, but it's always there.

There's such a thing as "too much information."

Thanks for taking the time to explain Axl, I've never been anywhere near it and wondered what it was about.

You're absolutely right but you also don't need Google to find out anything.

You're also right that there is such a thing as too much information but you've missed the point entirely with regards to Twitter. It allows you to choose what information, when, who how and why. Google works in real time and also caches and as a result you can gain up to date or out of date information whenever you want. I use it and always will. The point is Twitter is a medium which allows you to see what people are saying/doing/experiencing now and allows you to filter in real time, experience in real time and comment in real time on subjects that are happening... yes you've guessed it...in real time. Google can not and never will be able to do this without acting as a transport medium for information. That's the point you're missing. I love google personally but a close second is Twitter due to it's versatility.

The points you make show that you don't really understand the concept behind it at all. "Too much information". That's the point. You choose how much information, when how why and from whom.

Exactly like google, yet in real time and cached.

P.s. Google have only just come out with their version of realtime search. Kinda behind the times huh?

I don't use Twitter but I do like Blogs.I can read peoples diaries from all round the world and it is fasinating reading what other people are up to in their gardens and allotments, the flowers and veggies they grow, the birds they see in their gardens and animals they see in the wild.I also see the cakes, bread, clothes etc that they make and bake and even what weather they are experiencing, and this is all from the comfort of my arm chair for free without even having to board a plane:yez:
