Hi All, Have a Boston Ivy on a rendered and painted wall, my question is when I trim back growing shoots it leaves the sucker feet on the painted surface, anyone know how to remove them. I have tried wire brush, scraping and burning off, nothing seems to work, unless you know different. Thanks for your time.

We've got a couple of Boston Ivies which will soon cover the house.

Soiled, Im puzzled because the plant will re-grow and cover the mess the trimmed adhesive pads left behind.

Do you not want the plant growing above a certain height then? Because these creepers are so prolific that it would be a constant and thankless task to be continually checking it back, scraping off the pads and waiting for it to grow again.

Jings Soil ! Get Ivy off a rendered and painted wall ! Imposible !
It is possible to kill the Ivy, but all the bits that are left up the wall ?
I've been like you and tried the wire brush, the scraper, the hot air stripper.
In the end those bits will biodegrade - takes years. Looks a mess in the meantime.
The answer is Don't plant the stuff (I did it myself so no-one to blame)
Or keep the stuff - the Ivy was quite nice on the wall if I could have kept it from the roof and under the slates :(
Sorry to be so pessimistic but I think you have 2 choices
Let it grow and get up the ladder every year to keep it under control - if you're lucky.
Cut it down at ground level, and poison it bigtime, wait for the stuff on the wall to die off , then wait years for those ariel roots to die off.
You can paint over them and they might look OK from a distance.
From my point of view the stuff was a mistake (mine) in the first place.
    Good luck.
