has anyone tried water with copper coins in it as a fly deterrent? Does it really work?

Mrs C tried a similar theory last week - tinfoil suspended to flutter in the breeze - did nothing.

I bought one of those electronic tennis bat style zapper things on Tuesday, and that definitely works - in fact, the death is so swift for the fly, I would say that it is even more humane than fly spray (not that I really give two hoots about humanely executing flies)

I have tried the water and copper coins thing, I felt it did work to a degree, I now have one of those door mesh magnetic closure things, but that and the copper coins only on the door, with windows open etc you still going to get some.

Those zappers are brilliant, got lucky and my old man brought one home from work for me. Before that I used sticky fly tape that hang from the ceiling, great but just don't walk into it and get your hair stuck!

I love my tennis racket, so satisfying when they fry, some of them critters are very fast though.

I have a friend who owns one of those tennis racket gadgets and she says it is a really useful tool in getting rid of flies but she said that the burning smell of the flies cooking was pretty awful:yikes:

I have found the most cheapest reliable way to get rid of them is to open a door to the outside (either front or back door:biggrin:) or window to the outside and I just shoo them out and shut either the door or window behind them:snorky:

I benefit by not having to spend money on gadgets, sticky paper hangers, etc and also the House Martins that have rebuilt their nest under next doors roof eaves get fed and I have noticed that in the few years since they arrived the fly numbers are down quiet a lot, unless it is because our old neighbours are no longer there so don't get any maggots/flies coming out of their dustbin which used to feed the local Robin and Pied Wagtails :snorky:
