Went to visit a friend in Eastbourne yesterday - she has a fabulous garden - beautiful herbaceous border, huge vegetable plots and 2 large greenhouses. As usual., I always go home with the car full of cuttings, clumps of perennials and things in pots - this time was no exception, with me returning with a HUGE Iris Foetissmia (sp?) and a clematis she didn't want!

But...my friend is an avid Car Boot Saler and she found a book at one the other day - The RHS A-Z Encylopaedia of Garden plants. The huge hardback one. She decided its too big, so I noe have it. I dread to think how much it cost- but wow! Great book:thumb:

About 80 quid for the book, but many get it from a book club for as little as a tenner!

I do enjoy 'finds' when on my travels, and with perennials it is the best way to obtain new plants. I hope you have enough room in the garden!

    Enjoy!

Books give me all sorts of ideas!

I've split the Iris into 3 and will probably end up with it all over the garden.

Same friend has also got chickens and has been sent some hatching eggs for her broody bantams to hatch out, so in 3 weeks or so, she'll potentially have 15 chicks running around. I won't be taking them though!

A lovely present for me was a "Secret Santa" pressy from my gardening club. Inside the parcel there was: a soil ph kit, gardening gloves, numerous packets of seeds, a pack of tulip bulbs, and probably more things I can't remember now, but all individually wrapped in gift paper - I was thrilled.

that book is actually normally about £40 for the newer editions I think you might be thinking of the RHS Dictionary of gardening which regularly go for about that price =]
