It looks very smart and I'm sure you'll sort it all out soon. I think considering you didn't know (I must admit I don't either) which plants liked the alkaline soil and which didn't u did very well only having a couple acid loving ones

Hello again. I've been really touched by the kindness of all of the people on the forum, I hadn't had the chance to come back for a while so I really appreciate the effort you've all gone to to help me. I have decided to go for keeping them rhododendron and the forest flame but try to feed them a for a little while with the Ericaceous feed. That's a word I never knew until I came on here! If they die in a few years time it was never meant to be.

Thanks to Pro Grad for the suggestion of burying them in a seperate bed, although as you may be able to see I'm not sure I'm able to actually find somewhere else in the garden! I also joined freecycle although I might have to keep my eye on it for a while before I get something I can use.

You've all been brilliant, a testament to the gardening community! I'll be back here a lot from now on, so thanks to those who've helped, I really appreciate it. Happy gardening

    Hi,
I agree with all the positive comments r your work so far. The border you hav created looks really good and i can just imagine some nice summer bedding along the wooden structure maybe some hardy perenial geraniums, lady's mantle etc. I was in Homebase last week and purchased 2 large water butts for £9 each including taps. Good value methinks. They had about 10 of them in my branch so why not have a look on their website to see who has still got them????
    Good Luck nd happy gardening.

Well done Jblonde not only for getting the gardening bug but your lovely border I do like those curves and the wood looks quite stunning.

Up until late last year Bob and I 'had to' play taxi drivers for the boys big gaming event at Newbury Racecourse which is just up the road from you and always visited Wyevale garden centre there's another garden centre a little over the road from it too isn't there?

Anyway back on track (lol) don't worry and fuss too much over your plants as even with the very best of care things can still fail, but here's something to brighten your heart somewhat (at least I hope so) below is a photo taken only this morning of my Forest Flame Pieris which is stuck in a raised bed was is heavy clay soil in dappled shade and doesn't get any special treatment at all and as you can see it's more than happy! Hel.xxx.

Wow your bedding area looks fab! I am a total beginner and I am hoping to put a bedding area on either side of my garden.

Can I ask - where did you get the wooden posts from and how much did they cost? Did you just hammer them into ground or have you fixed them in place somehow? Would really love to do something like this!

    Thanks
