Lilies!

Today, I have discovered two new lilies that I didn't know existed: 'surprise' lilies and river lilies.

I've loved hemerocallis since I was a kid, and in general lilies are my favourite flower.

So, talk to me about them! What others do I still have to discover? I'd like to set up a lily bed or two, and I've got plenty of room to have a lot of different types and varieties. I've got 4 different hemerocallis but no others. Asiatics are on the list to get for next year, but I've also noticed that my neighbours across the road have some absolutely enormous ones - are these martagons or just a huge asiatic type? They are over 3ft tall and fantastic!

Just to add: you may have guessed already but I'm not just talking about the true lilies here but any plants with those flowers on them!

bought a few "tree" bulbs earlier this year from home bargains and wilko's.. the bulbs were about the same size as my pink asiatics, which a neighbour gave me the year before, so not big enough for 3ft tall plants or flowers but they have popped up, the leaves were not what I expected and I only have one bud on one of them.. so fingers crossed next year I'll have something more to show.
Maybe worth getting them from a good supplier (not a chain shop) for big bulbs.. let me know if you find one

This is the tower lily I'm growing, it's called " Purple Prince " and was from Wilkinsons last year. Got 3 for £1.50. It's got to about 4' this year.....



These are a mix of 3 Tiger lilies that were part of a deal from The Range and cost 2p ..........

 

Awesome! That looks like what my neighbour has. I will put them on the list!

 

Absolute bargain @Anthony Rogers! 2p you lucky sod! ..gotta get me some tiger lillies, that top one with the spots is gorgeous!
