I just can't work this one out .

Planted one of them miracle-gro gro able pods - salad tomatoes if memory serves me right.

The tomato plant has grown well - the tomatoes look like 'beef' tomatoes - so quite large - but they are refusing to go red.

They are in the greenhouse - so very warm in there - just growing larger and larger - without ripening.

There were being grown alongside the cucumber for some yummy sandwiches, sitting out in the back garden - looks like we'll be eating cucumber sandwiches with green tomato chutney if I can't turn this one around.

Am I doing something wrong to prevent them ripening - or do I have mutant tomato plants :yikes:

No, you probably need to wait a bit longer.

If they ARE beefsteak ones, they need to get the size of apples first.

They are coir containers - with plant food, compost and seed already in situ. So you peel orf the top of the container, plant level with the compost and water.

The idea being that the container disintegrates and voila and plants pop up.

They do work - they are for 'lazy' gardeners I think .

Would you believe it - the tom's have now started to go red :blue thumb:.

What if you stick a few banana skins in there? Let the ethylene do its magic.

Incidentally, a few times when on my jollies in the med, I've had salad featuring tomatoes in both red and green. The red ones impart a sweetness while the green offered a much sharper but equally delicious taste.
