    Hi all,

Quite a specific question but one I know little about!

We have a space under our lean-to against a white wall which is around 2 metres across x 2 metres high that I'd quite like to wall fan-train a tree against. Specifically something akin to this fine specimen: http://herbidacious.files.wordpress.com/2012/08/golden_transparent_april_2012.jpg

In B&M bargains yesterday, I came across several Cherry Morello trees that they were selling, all of which were about 1.5metres high, and from memory had plenty of side shoots/tall growth. These were not trained in any way.

How feasible would it be to buy, and then wall train such a tree? So I am asking is if this is this possible to do with a currently non-fan trained tree?

Sorry for all the questions, and thanks for any help/thoughts! I'm hoping to nip back to B&M and buy one of these trees (£9.99, bargain!) on Tues/Wed if it may be possible to do. Otherwise I'll research where to get a fan-trained one (probably at 2-3 times the cost!).

PS not of real relevancy, but I should add that this wall is north facing and will be container-based, both of which I'm led to believe Morello Cherry trees perform well in.

Unless you know what rootstock the B&M tree is grown on then I'd buy a tree from a good local nursery that is already trained as a fan. You need a dwarfing rootstock if you grow in a container. Alternatively you can buy a one year old 'whip' and train it yourself. It is feasible to DIY but of course it takes time - perhaps 3 year plus to get to the stage of the one in your link.

Thanks JWK for your post. I ended up going to B&M last night and there was one tree left, so I bought it anyway :snork:. It'd be rude not to for £9.99!

See below for a pic of the label. It looks in good health, I'll get a shot of the tree itself later. The only problem is I have absolutely no idea how old the tree is, it doesn't say on the label. I may still attempt to train it against the wall I'd like but I seek some more advice from here/the internet first!
