i'm trying to source and build the cheapest place to build a raised bed from. What can people recommend? I've been looking for 2 years, and really not sure what to look for etc. I even resorted to a couple of months ago in b&q getting them to cut up a big board, but how wasteful is that!

    hi newbiegreen

re raised bed i have installed a raised bed and was very impressed with the system.
if you google green & easy , they have a system called link a board it is made from upvc hence needs no maintaining. it is flexible and you can make a bed in a range of sizes from one square metre upwards, with a canopy as an optional extra, when fitted can easily be made into a cloche or fitted with net.

    hope this helps rpdiy:thmb:

Newbie one word 'recycle' why spend your hard earned pennies when there is a world of stuff that you can make a raised bed out of old scaffold boards, slabs, bricks, even ex-council aluminum garage doors.

Check your area and find out if your local council is replacing their garage doors the firms doing the work have to find a source to take them off their hands I thought that they weighed them in at the local scrap yard but this is not always the case we were able to get quite a few aluminum doors that stripped down into strips ideal for raised beds.

Bob has made 3 beds out of these so far we have another 3 or 4 more to do and they will last years and if you don't like the council green colour you can even paint them.

If you are out of luck with the garage doors then how about joining your local Free-cycle group on the web? if you see something you fancy be quick because things go really fast but at least its all free you just have to go and collect it! Hel.xxx.
