What is the best way to plant Chrysanthumums in pots or in the ground and can I get them to flower most of the year as someone said thanks
Hi Nathan, my neighbour is not around today but I did find this info.. Thought it might be of interest...:D http://www.southportgardeningandchrysanths.org.uk/howtogrow.htm http://www.telegraph.co.uk/gardening/howtogrow/6532282/How-to-grow-chrysanthemums.html http://www.greenfingers.com/articledisplay.asp?id=384 http://www.simplyseedsandplants.co.uk/chrysanthemumsTips/
Thank you Marley , Going to order some plants from Woolhams tomorrow they seem to have the plants I am looking for as a beginner[hope I can grow them better than my camera technique} ha ha ha :thumb:
:thumb: Fantastic news Nathan & I am sure you will do just fine with them too.. Glad the links were of some use.. Will have a chat with my neighbour though when I can..
I used to grow Chrysanths and Dahlias, but by now I seem to remember I would have lifted them dried them out and put them in a box in the cupboard under the stairs before planting them next year. I'm thinking of having another "go" next year, so would appreciate any advice on where to buy and when to plant.
Hello Doghouse I am ordering some chrysanths tomorrow from Woolmams there prices look very fair, I am trying these for the first time I am going to put them in the garden and also where the tomatoes have been , I have six pots in there now with sprays in and they are looking ok I find that the toms are taking up a bit of room and we find they all come at the same time so a change is due I think woolmans.com the ones I am going to buy are 12 plants for £11.90
12 plants? You only need the one :hehe: P.S. These are the ones I wanted to show, but couldn't get them into the post :( First link, Second link
Nathan the best advice I can give you is to look at the national chrysanthemum society site as there are lots of different types of chrysanth's and they all have different methods of growing. The photo that was shown was of the type that are grown in Japan and take an awful lot of skill to grow to that standard. good luck Billo
Nathan - do not look too closely at the Japanese pictures of Chrysanths. they are just incredible but it is the national flower emblem. We had a lecture at the local gardening club and they showed loads of Japan pics. including Chrysanths grown as a 'bonsai' quite extraordianry. Best of luck with your plants......
:dh: Wow Kristen those links are excellent.... Those Japanese surely know their Chyrsanth's....!!!! Wonderful pics....... Nathan, just go for a good show of blooms mate... You can get all fussy like that the year after....!! :lollol:
"You can get all fussy like that the year after" Don't tell him he can skive off for a year! All joking apart I have no idea how they create those shapes - are all stems guaranteed to grow the same length, so training out-and-then-up makes a cone / sloping shape? or do they grow hundreds and only a few make the grade for Showing? Mind you ... when I was in Japan if you bought strawberries all the fruit were neatly aligned, and facing the same way, in the punnet ... and they turned the apples on the tree so that they ripened a rosy-red evenly all round the fruit - on that basis I reckon I don't have a single Japanese-gene in my DNA :D
