Decking tiles

Hello i was wondering if anyone would be able to let me know if it is a good idea to put decking tiles in the bottom right of my garden ? and would it be ok on mud or would i need to put something on top of the mud ? the decking tiles will be used as a place for my bbq to go on.

i think it comes with a base with it im not to sure though

 

To be honest guys I would either put a few slabs down or do a gravel area and maybe not put the BBQ too close to your fence lol.Hel.xxx.

 

would i be able to put paving slabs on top of mud? what else would i need to put down, would it just be sand for the gaps or would i need more, i have a low budget so what shops are good for paving slabs, i looked at homebase and they were a rip off, i have been looking at jewsons website

 

Hi S&K sometimes your local council sell /give away old slabs they have lifted, or go to your nearest Council recycle/tip there could be some there for free... there's allways freecycle too. or look out in your neighbourhood for anyone making over there garden you will need sturdy slabs not the cheap sort they sell in GCs, i can't see the point of paying for them new, to go under decking, or wouldn't concrete work out cheaper?

 

we was thinking of having just paving and having the on top of the paving

i dont think the council would have any, not in dagenham, essex

 

Sarah/Kevin I would totally agree with Dee join your local online Freecycle group all the gear on there goes for free you just have to be quick and of course it's handy if you have a car or a willing friend to take to to collect your bounty.

If you want a quick and easy fix mark off your area with some cheap or free boards (off freecycle) laid old cardboard down and some weed membrane and get some gravel down you will be surprise how easy it is and quite cheap too and I for one don't think it looks 'cheap' I do so love gravel in gardens not everyones cup of tea but mine for sure! :hehe:

Don't want to upset Dee (sorry sweetie :D) but the slabs we used in our side garden for the path were pretty cheap £1.99 each from a little Garden Centre we know. The path gets plenty of heavy traffic but none have broken and two years on they still look great (it's an old picture but it gives you an idea).

we went to homebase yesterday and looked at some slaps we have seen some that we like they are £2.99 each we are only going to get 8 slaps though and will get some sand to level the ground out

 

Lay them properly on moartar, theyll move on sand unless they are very wide slabs, particuarly so with it being a patio. Point the joints with moartar, youll get weeds otherwise.

I have laid slabs on compacted and level soil with a membrane underneath and gravel in between when making tempoary semi short term pathways but would not consider this for a patio.

 

we are only doing it for the bbq to go on not for a patio and we have a very tight budget as we are both unemployed

 

Then a firm base with maybe sand to level them will be fine. Mine lasted for a dozen years until we relaid the patio. Careful you don't position it too near that fence:wink:

 

we dont have anything like that we are putting the sand on to level mud and placing the slaps on top of that we dont want are hard job just small and basic only going to have the bbq on it
