Just about closed down for the winter, Only Brussel sprouts and Curly Kale left, hopefully for Crimbo dinner well the sprouts that is
I now have all my plot dug over with manure and this new Volcanic rock dust added :-)
(as advertised in the Freebie thread)
My local garden centre had free trial packs of Volcanic Rock Dust, supposed to add minerals to your earth, and produce giant vegetables/brilliant flowers, we will see if it is free why not try it

Dim posted on here a year or so ago about rock dust, Then Beechgrove garden visited a site in Perth that had giant Veg down to rock dust and now Garden center's are offering trial packs so giving it a go
I suppose if crushed lime stone can aid the garden then crushed Basalt can too more minerals

Hi @Jack McHammocklashing. Shows I'm out of touch, never heard of the stuff! I too am prepared to give anything (within reason:)) a go once. Are the free trial packs at Bridgend Nursery and any clue if they still have some?

Having poo poo'd Rockdust in the past as snake-oil, I'm now tempted to give it a go, I hadn't realised it was relatively cheap at B&Q - thanks for that tip in your linked thread @Steve R

I was just wondering if this rock dust is the same as highland slag? Friends of mine have an organic farm and have used this extensively, the 1st time my friend mentioned it I burst out laughing and well, don't really need to mention what I was visualising do I?:roflol:.

I just finished reading the journey of your allotment. I find the idea of allotments intriguing. That is practiced here in the USA also, but I have never lived anywhere it was available. How far do you have to go to get to your allotment and how big is your allotment?

You are taking very good care of your allotment, your hard work shows in the richness of the soil and how neat you are keeping it. We lived in town for 30 years and had a small lot. I grew a vegetable garden in the front yard, as the back yard was too shaded. It is amazing how much food you can grow in a small space. I know you are enjoying growing such nice vegetables. Nice, Really nice. :)
