I don't know if it even exists but I'd like a planter containing what looks like...

... a cordyline palm tree.

Does that make any sense at all?

Ideally I'd like to find something with a palm-like stem, of around 50-60cm topped with the spiky foliage of a red cordyline. I may well have managed to dream up this idea, but if anybody has any ideas if what I'm thinking of, or similar, exists please let me know.

Either that, or suggest a good shrink in the Nottingham area... :skp:

I reckon you are after a mature cordyline

 

I've got a couple of cordylines but I've never thought of peeling away the lower leaves. In fact the largest one I have is much wider than what I've been imagining I've seen/dreamed up and that's only a year old now.

I shall take a closer look at it in day light.

 

The Lower Leave's of Cordylines die off naturally John, thats when you peel them off to reveal the Trunk, that doesen't start happening untill its at least 5/6 years old then it depends how old it was when you bought it

 

My OH bought me one in a terracotta pot last year but the leaves are still all the way down the stem so I shall watch it with interest (if I can keep it alive that long:o)

 

Maybe a yukka would do it for you, John.
