Hi, here's Jake, my Irish Water Spaniel. He's four. Wherever I go, he goes, he's my velcro dog. He's a water dog and likes to swim in the River Spey and in the sea from the Moray beaches. He's also known as bog-dog (he will find any mucky puddle/stream), whip-tail (woe betide if he cracks you with his tail when he's wagging it) and Big Spaniel.

Jake has a beautiful personality and is never aggressive. He lives up to the breeds reputation as 'the clown of the dogs'. He is rather goofy and an exhibitionist with those he knows. Anyway, that's my Jake!

He's beautiful - the first one I have seen of the breed.

    I'm sure he's a real comfort and joy. :)

It looks like you live in an area where he can live life to the full.

Oh, and welcome to GC Carole !

    Kath :)

Nice looking dog. His personality sounds lovely. Guess he get trimmed regular. We have a good size creek running end of our property, guess I know where he'd be at all times.
To think of all the towels I'd use up to dry him before coming in the house.
    Have fun.

Thank you all so much for your very kind comments about Jake -

I forgot to mention, he's a rescue dog! Here's a couple of pictures of how he was when we rescued him! As you can see, he was very malnourished, his hips were sticking out and you could almost cut your hand on his spine.

His hair came out too - the second picture shows him after a few weeks - and of course you can see how he is now by his pictures on the first post. A lot of love and TLC and you can do most anything with a dog.

it is so wonderful that people like you, Carole are there for good dogs like Jake. I am sure daily Jake is thanking you in his own way.

And what happened to this dog is one of my most angry passions against humans I have---why get a beautiful dog/breed as this, or any dog, don't research it first, can't make a life time commitment to it, and then mistreat this innocent soul. It just angers me so, so much.

Oh Carole, I just started reading this and then saw your last photo's. How awful! but how brilliant he is now. Well done you. He looks great and look at his lovely face, he loves you & life. Your photo's are very good, looks like Jake has a good time! Does his coat dry quite quickly being a water dog?

    cheers

Hi, thanks for your lovely comments about Jake. He's healthy now and in prime condition.

Jake's coat dries fairly quickly if I've got him clipped short. One added bonus - he doesn't smell of 'wet dog' none of the Irish Water Spaniels do! I do tend to keep him clipped short as he does pant a lot in hot weather. I keep telling hubby we need a swimming pool here, but he says 'dig' lol.

Is that your dog in the picture?

    Hi again Carole,

I'm a vet and am appalled at the photos of Jake when you first took him into your life, but through the fury I'm feeling that he was treated so badly, I'm just so pleased for him to have found you, who now so clearly treats him with the love and respect that all animals deserve.

Thank you for doing your bit :)

    Kath x

Hi Carole,I am gobsmacked at the state that Jake was in when you first rescued him.How can people be so stupid to treat such a magnificant animal in that way.It just makes my blood boil and i can't put into words what I would like to do to them if I could get my hands on them:mad:

I Googled for Irish Water Spaniels information and they are a very rare breed and are an endangered breed in it's self.I see also that they have poodle in their makeup something I thought as soon as I saw him:)

Many Thanks for sharing Jake with us and for rescueing him and giving him such a warm loving home and may you have many more happy years together:gnthb:
