Hi Woo, I am not the person to advise you altho I do have a printer which hasn't blown up yet. Bought why? because it got reasonably good reviews and wasn't too hard on the bank balance. Hopefully the likes of @fat controller will be around and sure he/other knowledgeables will be able to give you good advice unlike mine! If nobody happens to reply I can find out what mine is and let you know. Currently I only know it's not too big and black apart from that not a clue what make/ model it is:noidea:....do I hear typical flaming woman, only interested in the colour being muttered:snorky:

I've had an Epson SX535WD wireless printer (my second Epson) for the last few years and am quite happy with it @wiseowl . It's a little noisy but apart from that works perfectly well. Cartridges for it are easily available and cheaper to buy on the internet.

Avoid very cheap printers, they are often sold with "start-up" or "setup" cartridges that contain tiny amounts of ink and buying full sized replacement cartridges can cost more than the printer.

If you do lots of printing then have a think about HP Printers and use their Instant Ink service - it will work out cheaper. But if you only print a few pages every month then go for a printer that takes cheaper cartridges, Brother or Epsom.

Make sure it has 4 separate cartridges for the 3 primary colours and black because then if one colour runs out you only replace that one cartridge at a time.

Are you wanting to print at photo quality @wiseowl?

HP were always my go-to printer, but as has been mentioned above they have locked their printers to only take genuine HP cartridges which cost a fortune. I am currently running an Epson 760 which so far has been pretty good - works flawlessly on wi-fi, and non-genuine cartridges aren't too expensive for it. It isn't a cheap option though.

That is a bargain @wiseowl - I think I paid £160 for mine. The photo quality is remarkably good, and the scanner on it is excellent (it is the first one I have had that is capable of scanning and copying Mrs C's cross stitch patterns, and not losing any of the symbols or gridlines).

I don't use my Epson for printing photos so don't know about that :noidea: but it's an old flatbed scanner/printer that has given good service for many years. Can't say how much it costs as we never seem to have to pay for our computer type equipment.

Ours has the three colour and one black cartridges and we buy non-Epson cartridges on the net very cheaply. They work out at less than a £1 per cartridge and, I think, they usually contain 35ml but are cheap even if they're 19ml. Never had a problem with them.

FYI:- it is recommended that you don't turn off printers as, if you do, most of them do an automatic head cleaning when turned back on. Apparently, tests were done, they can use up to a third of the ink over the lifetime of the cartridge. That also fills up the thingy (technical term) that contains the ink that was used for it.

The Epson 760 price ranges from £99.99 to £159 , so Argos price is very good .Gets excellent reviews as well - especially for photo printing. I need a printer so may buy this one next year :blue thumb:

Epson had a cashback promotion on them Jan - Mar earlier this year, so you might get an even better deal if they repeat it.

Good afternoon @fat controller and all my other friends and thank you for all your sound advice and help.its very much appreciated my friends
After much deliberation and looking at 200 printers(on line and at Currys) I decided to purchase this Epsome printer.,I went to Argos after reserving the printer I had decided on (2016 manufactered) stood patently waiting for my number to appear about 20 minutes and there it was in a beautiful box,and then I noticed that it was another Epsom model (2015) the manager said that the 645 was not in stock so they had replaced my order with another model which they can do on occaisions,I said thank you and then went to Currys, where Canon salesperson accosted yours truly for 20 minutes, but alls well that ends well and now it is all set up Wi Fi and all;)
