    Hi all

Think i may have gone a bit wrong with my first time planting :help:

I am completely new to 'growing my own', but have picked up tips from friends and books. I have planted potatoes and onion sets in my very small patch. I thought i'd done them right, but after watching gardeners world think i may have gone wrong.

I didn't leave the tops of my onion sets exposed and don't think i made the trough big enough for my potatoes. Does this matter?

Seems like a daft question, but to be honest, i was quite nervous about planting them in the first place :hehe:

    Thanks
    Lou :)

I tend to bury onion set, if you leave the top showing the birds pull them out the ground.
As long as they are not more than an inch or so down I'm sure they will be alright.

As to spuds, how deep did you plant them?
Its normal to earth them up once they surface anyway.

Thanks Pete, feel a bit better now!! I dug a channel, probably not as wide as it should have been, but only lightly covered them. I have seen that once the shoots pop through you cover them again?

    Thanks for the info :)

The onion sets will be OK.

Keep earthing the soil up around the potato shoots when they appear, the idea is to form a ridge :thumb:
