As a slight sideline, I keep getting from chrome, that the site is trying to load scripts from unauthenticated sources.
I'm assuming that has something to do with the ads as I'm getting same on other sites occasionally.

I also use something called "rapport" and that has totally stopped working on chrome for some reason, so now I have to use IE for anything that requires security, banking etc.

The scripts are almost certainly from ads - some sites seem to be really bad for this at the moment, and different browsers seem to handle the problem differently. Firefox tends to try and soldier on, but is juddery as hell in terms of scrolling up and down to the point it is almost useless; Chrome, well it just stops and hangs around waiting. Oddly enough, GC is one of the sites I have found the least troublesome when this happens.

Rapport - I had it a while back as it was foisted upon my by my bank; it got ripped out by the root as it is a pain in the bum (it would often only show only the odd pictures from the bank's website, if it chose to load at all). I use ESET Smart Security which has banking protection built in. I've been with ESET for years on all my machines, and never had an issue.

Natwest kind of makes you use rapport I believe.
                    Never heard of ESET?

ESET is a long standing provider of anti-virus and security products @pete - probably better known in the business world than domestic; I've been with them for years and years, and never had an issue. In fact, I am just about to add an additional licence to my package to cover my mum's laptop

We use ESET at work. It's pretty solid but not infallible. It let a browser hijack through once. Well sort of. The browser hijack didn't actually work. The malicious javascript disguised as an image didn't actually work because it was incomplete. That's how I found it. It was breaking the perfectly fine javascript that I'd written, and it was while debugging my code I noticed it was attempting to run some unrecognised code. ESET missed it. Malware Bytes got it though.
