Currys, pc world, carphone warehouse. All the same company, and all utterly dire.

But I don't blame the shop floor staff, as ignorant as they are. I guess they're on commission so if you dress in expensive clothes and then go and look at the 4 thousand quid telly, I bet they'd be lovely.

I think at a policy level they're dire. We're in the third millennium. So if I order a phone on line for next day collection in store, I should never get there to be told it hadn't arrived yet and it will be 10 working days. And if that does happen, then I should be able to cancel the order either in store or online, rather than having to phone several different phone numbers before giving up and just telling my bank to block any direct debits from them.

I also dislike their policy of deliberately misleading the customer. I bought a telly from them once and they then tried to sell me a warranty in case it breaks. The bloke was not best pleased when I said I'll have the 50 quid warranty for free, because it's basically the same as my rights under the sale of goods act.

My experience is that you can't phone a store directly. The only number that is ever published is the main office. Several retail outlets are like that. You never know who you are speaking to.

On the selling thing. I worked in retail 20 years ago. I hated every minute of it. There were several golden rules that had to be followed.

Greet every customer with open questions.
        Sell up the range.
        Sell accessories.
        Sell finance and insurance.

Basically, harass the customer until they bought something. I was never any good at it. Unfortunately every now and then you would fall victim to the mystery shopper. If you didn't follow the correct procedure you would be reprimanded.

The last one that tried that on me was told that we don't have gas and I produce my own electricity using solar panels, wind turbines and air source heat pumps, plus battery storage. The blank and then confused look on their face was lovely. :snorky:

She should have told him that YOU produce your own gas , especially after your special beans on toast with sprouts side salad meal :roflol:
