Hello from Brno...

Yes Brno, Brno in the Czech Republic!

Now I know this is gardenerscorner.co.UK but I am British, so that has to count. Besides, my Czech isn't quite good enough yet to vist thier forums... assuming there are any! Besides, this is apparently the only gardening forum I need!

I moved here 3 years ago or so, bought a house exactly one year ago and thought it time I take up gardening. Actually that was option 3, option 1 was to pay a small fortune to have someone turn the builders yard (our garden - the house was a new build so I'm sure you can imagine what the 'garden' looked like) into something resembling a place for the family to enjoy. Option 2 was to do nothing.

Obviously option 3 won. I've had a huge amount of fun designing and putting everything in place but it's been tough going from zero knowledge back then to just a tiny way past zero knowledge now! Made a few mistakes along the way - my grass, the so called 'lawn' is not quite what I had imagined, actually it's the ground underneath that is the problem, not the grass itself - and learned a few things too. I also lost 10kg which was a great but unexpected bonus!

After a snow filled winter which touched minus 15 it's all go again now as I try and batter my horrible clay into something useable as a vegetable garden and set about redesigning the bits that I didn't think quite hard enough about last year before diving into! The flower garden is looking nice already though...
