Tried that numerous times without success, found it better to simply cancel and return as 'new customer' with loads of benefits.

So far it has never failed for me. Same with insurances, which I do over the phone. :blue thumb: With the phone deals there's not much in the way of benefits that I can use :noidea:but I'm paying next to nothing anyway. :)

With the car insurances I've always got them to well below the renewal quotes (not always with the same company) and, up to now, it has reduced each year for the last eight years. I can't see it getting any lower so I shall have to fight to keep it the same. My S80T costs just over £200, fully comp, no claims protection, a courtesy car if off the road for a claim and only £100 excess.

I've just renewed my Anytime Calls contract with BT and negotiated the first three months free. :dbgrtmb:

Also spoke to them (too early to actual do the deal) about renewal of Line Rental Saver and they've offered to upgrade me to Infinity (fibre) for £1.50 per month. :blue thumb:

Eldest nearly set the microwave on fire with a bag of popcorn.. the house stinks!

Little one has flooded the downstairs wc sink with carex hand-wash and soaked my lupins that were sitting underneath.. it's not even officially half-term yet, wonder what's next! :mute: :heehee:

To anybody who's struggling with incredibly slow internet speeds for browsing the web, a backup option could be to use internet tethering to a mobile phone.

Most smartphones have the option of using them as a wireless network that you can connect Laptops, iPads, Xbox etc to. I have no hard-wired broadband at all where I currently live as it's so remote, so am using a laptop connected via the phone's internet access.

Am on a 3G plan (which is sometimes slow) with Virgin and get 5GB data a month for £15 but will upgrade next month to a 4G plan with 5000 minutes and 20GB data for the same price. The only down side is some 08... numbers aren't included in the plan and cost an arm and a leg to call.

If your're using it for internet or calls to anything but 08 numbers, you will be safe as long as you keep an eye on the usage and Virgin have a phone app that does just that.

Good to hear it mate :Wino:. Nice bit of bartering!

Fibre is a world apart from ye olde copper and it doesn't make any difference how far you live away from an exchange as the signal travels at the speed of light (670,616,629 MPH) and doesn't weaken like it does over copper.

In my previous career as an IT engineer, the problems people faced with ADSL (copper) were about half of the daily grind of being shackled to a desk, solving IT issues. The people with fibre rarely called and when they did it was usually because of rare, widespread issues, or some numpty with a JCB had dug up a main cable for a localised fibre network :snork:.

The main problem is that the fibre doesn't come to the house. It goes from the exchange to the 'box' in the village - and I don't live in the village. The engineers told me that the ADSL copper still runs from the box to my house.

And that is the real problem which the companies promising "super fast" broadband seem to fail to mention when touting an improvement. There are millions of houses, including mine, that won't gain any extra broadband speed because the last link into the house is copper wired. I wonder why they fail to mention that in their advertisements promising higher speeds:dunno::whistle::heehee:

It should improve our speed to a certain extent as they have brought the fibre 85% closer to our house but it's the last mile or so that's the problem. There's no cable in this area either.

Having said all that, I wouldn't dream of streaming content so it won't matter a lot to us.

This is a little self-moan :snork:

I watched Alan Davies on TV last night (midnight to 1.40 a.m.) and he was doing a one man show.

Most of his non-stop stand up was moaning and comparing the way things used to be compared to nowadays. I thought it was very good, but I lived through the times he was referring to. :old:

I thought his delivery was excellent and the content funny - so why am I moaning?

It's because I can't remember much of what he said so can't tell Mrs Shiney!

He did the typical things such as, when we were young there was only one telephone in the house (if you were lucky and could afford it) but it was always in the hall. If you were posh you had a telephone table and if you were posher still you had a seat next to it. In the winter you needed to take a blanket with you because it was always freezing in the hall. Phone calls were much more expensive before 6 p.m. :rolleyespink:

He reminisced about scraping ice off the inside of windows and, totally unrelated, about the ignorance about sexual matters. :snorky:

                        Can't remember much more :dunno:

If it`s the 3rd time its gone Linz, then I would say it would
be cheaper to replace the car.

Ahh probably :( I've had a few problems with it since I've had it. Luckily the last clutch was free because it went with in the year.. this one is still with in the year too but no idea if this will be free too :( Looking on a car forum and it seems to be a problem for my type of peugeot :mute:
