Had to severely prune a big old apple tree last week so came away with a bucket load of apples.

    Did this with them,

    2lb apples,
    8oz onions,
2oz dried tamarinds(take all the seeds out)

    Good splosh each of,

Ground cinamon, mixed spice & salt.

    One dried paprika,

    12oz sugar,
    3/4 pint of vinegar.

Boiled all up & stirred till sugar disolved then simmered for half an hour & pureéd with a hand wizzer.

Sterilised some plastic sauce bottles with baby sterilising tablets & put em in the fridge when cool.

Tastes great now, will have to resist it till it matures.

Sounds lovely =] reminded me of the most amazingly tasty apple I had the other day which I was given as a left over from the botanic gardens apple days event (can't remember what variety it was:doh:), it was a bit bigger then a tennis ball and a muddy yellow/red colour and tasted crisp and tangy like a granny smith very yummy!!

We went to apple day in bridport on saturday, some amazing varieties there, including on with pink flesh.

I just used a whole dried paprika imported from turkey Marley.

Just had some on toast, lovely.

Sorry for delay Marley, been up to Aldershot & back.

To be honest i wish i'd put a bit more paprika in, not as hot as i'd hoped.

Have envelope with 3 dried ones in which i will post tommorow. Don't tell me your address, i just want to see if I can get them to you.:thumb:

Have just tweaked last weeks recipe by doing the same again but adding an extra dried paprika, 2 fresh home grown chillis & 2 small beetroot for the colour.

Like the idea of your recipe but I would worry about storing it that way for long term use.

Maybe you use a lot and don't need it for long term.

I have only used the kind of jars (Kilner or otherwise) that the lids go concave to show that there is a proper vacuum inside, plastic sauce bottles surely would be for short term/immediate use?:)

That sounds a good idea Marley. Have you seen the vicar yet, is he cooking anything spicey :hehe:

The plastic bottles went straight in the fridge Dag, & yes, with 2 kids we get thru a lot of sauce.
