    Hello all,

One of the more striking features of my newly-aquired garden is the skeleton of a large rosebush. I've no idea what type of rose it is, or even what colour - by the time we moved in late last November it had finished flowering, though the leaves are now a beautiful deep copper red. The whole garden had been untouched for some years until we moved in, though I believe my landlady gave this particular plant a good prune just before we arrived (mainly because it's right at the top of the garden steps and was pretty much obscuring access). My question is, should I now leave it be, or do I need to be pruning it back further? I've pretty much left it alone while I've tried to get everything else straightened out, but now worried I've left it too late!

I'm not sure how clearly you can see from the pictures, but there's a big thick main trunk covered in ivy at the bottom which then forks, with all the finer branches coming off from there. The whole thing is probably close to 1.5m in height at present.

Many thanks @wiseowl - it was actually that thread that made me think of it, but I wasn't sure if two hard prunes in one winter would be too much. I'll add it to the job list for this week :)
