Nowt wrong with internet dating. It is no less valid than meeting someone in a pub or in the supermarket. At least with t'internet you can find out the basics about someone's personality before you commit to meeting them face to face.

Only thing I would say though is don't give them too much that they could use to track you down in case they turn out to be a bunny boiler. Let the t'internet do for introductions, and then proper getting to know and trust each other should happen in person I reckon.
