I finally decided it was safe to start recreating my garden today, having seen bindweed in the neighbour's garden but none in mine following last years blitz.

I'd lost my mojo a bit lately after a number of horticultural disasters, but decided I had to do the back garden so that my 3 month old son can enjoy it, in the company of the wife and me. I decided I needed some well rotted manure to improve the soil, some weed control fabric to make a barrier between my garden and next doors to help prevent their bindweed invading again, and some plants to go. I figured a couple of hours work all in all.

Seven hours later, and with failing daylight, and failed energy levels, its still not done. I am now totally worn out but doesn't it make you feel better to get out and do the work?

I got most of my weed barrier in. I dug a trench right along at the foot of the dreaded Leylandii hedge that totally sucks the ground dry. I hadn't planned on remove any roots I encountered, but decided it would make more sense if I did, and the Leylandii's can dry out Bindweed man's garden instead of mine. Some of the roots I chopped off were a good four inches thick and presumably ran right under my struggling lawn. What a job it was getting them out, but armed with a decent saw, some beefy tree loppers, a good spade, and good old British grit and determination, they eventually yielded.

Shame I did finish everything I had planned for today, but it can wait. All in all a very good, but hard days work.

I'd be too embarrassed to take any pics. At the moment my garden looks quite literally like a war zone:) In fact when I was digging my trench, the effect of a trench with banked up earth along the top, and a poorly lawn just beyond, and me with mud smudged all over my face put me in mind of those poor soldiers stuck in no mans land during the war.

No need to feel embarrassed Clueless. Infact if anything, it would be good to see how far you have come in the months to come.

Well done for the hard work.

Take pics Clueless. They're a great way to look back and congratulate yourself on all your hard work. I make a habit of taking pics of the garden progress every month and its interesting to look back to the ones I took when I first started on this garden.

Ok. I might take some pics and we can see how it goes. I already have some pics from last year from before I blitzed the place in my war on terrible bindweed.

You don;t have to upload the pics until you have some decent "After" pictures to upload too ... a couple of hours with Photoshop and you should have the "Afters" done :D :D :D
