If this is mainly for frogs/tadpoles then I'd leave out the Marsh Marigold. It would take up too much space and not be that beneficial. If you want some shade to stop it getting too hot then I'd provide it externally, perhaps with a large potted plant you could move as necessary.

I partially agree with King Edward:thumbsup::snorky: But marginal plants grown in pots in a pond of any size, including Marsh Marigold will not take up to much space as they are restricted by the pot. I have had the double flowered and the single flowered Marsh Marigolds in my pond since 93' and both are in pots so they stay under control with no rampant growth. The same applies to my Skunk Cabbage, if it were grown just in a pond it would spread up to 6 feet or more. But, because it is planted in a small plastic crate it has stayed to a modest 3 feet wide. But, as with any plant, should one get out of control, you can merely take whatever it is out of the pot, divide it, and start again......with the added bonus of gaining another plant!!:hapydancsmil::snorky:

I bought a Marsh Marigold today. Will put it into a bigger pot tomorrow. I also bought another marginal that forms a carpet habit and has tiny lilac flowers - cannot remember the name and I'm not about to get out of my very comfy bed to trek out into the garden and check the label :snorky:. The latter was an impulse buy. I am not by nature known for being overly impulsive, but I seem to have something of a blind spot where plants are concerned :lunapic 130165696578242 5:. I realise now that I might need a larger mini pond :lunapic 130165696578242 5:
