    Hi!
I am new here, and though I am a keen gardener, I joined the forums because I need little help. I am an older student at Open University, and as a part of my course I am doing a project on improving - waterbutts. I made a survey of 10 simple questions, it is anonymous, there is no need to register, and it takes about 1-2 minutes to do- please can you fill it ?

I would also appreciate any advice, experience, etc you have about the subject.
Thank you so much for any help!
    Jo

    PS
I already like the forums - and your emoticons k-l

    Done.

Had a query though: One of the questions was "Pressure from water company"

Did that mean water pressure as in bars? Or financial pressure as in £s savings on your bill?

    I assumed the former :thumb:

Thank you - yes, I meant financial / or some sort of regulations type of pressure. A good point, I need to think how to make that clearer.

I was thinking to add a question about what are the worst 'nightmares' that drive gardeners to despair (e.g. slugs) - but the survey only allows 10 questions.

Can I ask here? For me it would be 1: slugs 2: cats 3: foxes - though I like cats and think foxes are beautiful animals ( no redeeming features for slugs!)

Without a doubt, gastropods and their relations, when it comes to the garden.

Don't start me on foxes though (chicken keeper)!

    :O
    You win:)
My fox issues are nothing...they just 'play' with my pots and seedlings.

Shame the caterpillars and slugs don't develop a taste for the weed! I used to ask in a local pub for beer slops, and pour this on my weeds to get slugs to work...but it was in vain:)

Aww, sorry Dave! Does not planting some spring onion around carrots help? I never grow carrots as they are quite cheep organic, and I have only little space now-so badly want to move somewhere with a huge garden.

Deer - a small herd can destroy an acre of trees up to 10 years old at one visit. All they do is nibble / rub a ring of bark of the tree, no other damage, but then of course the tree cannot "drink" and it is done for :(

I'm no fan of marestails / horsetails either
