Hyacinth problem

I have several hyacinths in my garden. Some are new and some I have had for a few years. I can't understand why they are coming up with hardly any flowers on. Very open and only four or five flower segments. They should be full of flowers and tightly packed.

Can anybody offer a cure to this please? Is it maybe that they are planted too deeply?

 

I can only offer my own experience, hyacinths tend to naturalise after a couple of years and I've found the "prepared" ones are the worst for doing this. I've tried lifting them each year and replanting the following autumn and get the same result.

Not helpful I know, but just what has happened to me.

 

Thank you. At least I am not alone. The hyacinths were meant for the garden so I am disappointed. I did plant some 'prepared ones' too but they too have developed the same way.

 

Prepared hyacinths are not for garden planting they are for early indoor pot displays, not sure what happens to them if planted in the garden.

But the problem with sparse flowers could be a slug thing, they eat the developing buds long before they start to flower.
With bulbs from previous seasons it may be that the bulbs needed feeding, during the growing period after flowering last year.

 

Thank you for your help. I will try feeding them. Haven't noticed any slugs but then I don't watch them all the time. I have some hyacinths in pots outside which also give me a poor show.
