Had a fab new species in my garden today, mainly feeding on the knapweed - a Silver-washed Fritillary!

While hanging around trying to get a good shot of it, I also found a Small Skipper

and a 'white'. It has veining, so I presume it is Green-veined not Small, but it is not as veined as others I have seen. Any opinions?

It was dancing about, but its size caught my attention: how could a speckled wood be this big? When it finally landed I was looking at a female silver-washed fritillary with the rare but beautiful colour mutation :)

I saw my first (but late) Hummingbird Hawk Moth yesterday, it came into the garden flew around the Salvias and flew off!!!! I only saw it for about 10 seconds.:frown:
Perhaps it will return as it would remember where it's food sources are but it obviously wasn't in need of nectar just then.

Plus Commas, Marbled Whites, Peacocks, but none of the Blues and no Speckled Woods (yet) . Read a while ago that Commas are on the increase (numbers and range) and I've never seen as many as I have this year.
