I know that the general practice for pruning Wisteria is February and August but with sap rising in plants earlier than usual has anyone thoughts on pruning at different times of the year?

I think it comes down to the severity of the winter in your given area in any given year. For example we have nearly all just had a severe winter so there most likely will not be many plants well ahead of normal growth times, if any.

If you keep a close eye on the buds, you can still make the winter prune earlier if conditions dictate that to be necessary.

Hi folks. Sorry to slightly change the direction. I bought and planted out some wisterias last autumn, and having just seen the mention of pruning, maybe someone could tell me the basics of it ? I should add, these are young plants, around 3ft tall. Cheers...freddy.
