    Bearing in mind I know less than nothing about computers I'd be very, very grateful for some help.

    I'm running on XP and have IE8 and anti-virus software.

    The problem is with my email which seems to have 'gone down' and I keep getting 'Error Code 999' I've looked for a solution and the problem appears to be with BT rather than something I've done (for once!). There is a link to report the error (using a different e-mail address for them to reply to) but that doesn't seem to be working either since all I'm getting with that is a message which says they're 'unable to process the request'.

    A further search and I've found what appears to be a Windows Help and Support 'repair' for Error Code 999 available for download.

    So my questions are:

    Is this a problem I can do anything about?
    and
    Is it safe to download the 'repair'?

    I'd be really grateful for any assistance

    I wouldn't trust that 'repair' package without some other evidence that it works! Assuming you mean the one which appears at the top of the google search for error 999. It doesn't explain what the error is or what it's going to do with your PC!

    My computer is in hosptal at the moment with an email problem. No error report - just unable to load Outlook. I'm also on BT but I suspect it was caused by the upgrade to AVG 11 but don't know.

    I'm able to email by going into my Home Page at BT through my browser. This is more tedious and, of course, I haven't got access to the thousands of stored emails I have in Outlook.

    Hi Shiney,

    Sorry to hear about your computer having to go into Hospital and hope that the problem can be fixed soon.

    I used to have loads of stored emails on my old computer so Mr Kandy got some of those little plug in devices{I think they are called USB's but can't remeber exactly}and downloaded them all on there so now have them safe and the computer was then free of thousands of stored stuff.The machine started getting slower and slower but we wasn't sure whether it is because our village is so slow with the Broadband or whether it was clogged up with too much stuff or just the age of the machine{four years old}

    Anyway,hope you get the problem sorted as it must be doing your head in having to keep messing about with BT:oops:
